Any tricks to change a logo with a gradient?

Many very nice themes have a sample logo up top...that seem to present a problem when trying to change the logo.

When the designer uses a gradient in the logo image that matches the background...

...we have trouble creating a new logo image that matches the gradient.

Is there a trick we don't know yet?

design a tile with that gradient and have it repeated across the header where the logo is. or create the gradiant 1st, then save it and then add the logo afterwards by layering the logo over the image with the gradient on,

alternatively, place the image with the gradient as a background or something and then use a transparent png for the logo.

if using divs & png image file, make use of z-index & positioning.

Ah - the bluehue theme

In the /images folder there is a file called header.jpg - I created a new image the same pixel-size as the bluehue logo and tiled it across the image.

I them added another image as a separate layer on top,added my text (I colour-grabbed from the logo image) and then exported the resultant image as logo.jpg (overwriting the original.

PM me if you want my file as just the graduated background
