by installing "altsys" 3.2 you can change your admin menu easily in altsys --> preferences without any hack to core files. it just affect cache/adminmenu.php so if your admin menu break you can back to the original by remove that file.

there are 3 options for admin page:
1- two columns of module icons

2- IMG to text

3- Like XOOPS Cube legacy
