Just noticed here on Xoops, we could do with making a more clear system of release for any modules.
Now I know I am not the best programmer, yet Ideas and…A...
If we structured that any revision is done, that may effect end users and not made for a production site until testing is done…shouldn’t we do something about that as to inform end users???
As in I know we have the terms alpha and beta ect, yet all; these are, is letters.
So if we continued with that and add this to our original releases as a blue print for all us.
A,B,C....
So when anything is released even though may seem great in the configuration settings it was made in, it may not work on other system as is becoming apparent…
So if we all labelled that with an A so people know when it has just come out and know not to upload to a production site until the letters are removed…
As B is once it is more stable, as in beta yet just adding a letter and making a list of these would be far easier to see; when we got use to an idea like this…
Then things like Article and CBB, or any module that might contain a lot of person database is given a warning….so the latest released would be 0.97a as it is unsure even though the revisions are just within keeping; we never know if all will work…
As we see…
That way when it has become more stable and all fixes needed, it can move on…
Now I know I may seem like I am re-inventing the wheel and saying lets call it O, ye in making a system like this we can then be clear what sort of XOOPS module it is…
Could even go through the rest of the alphabet to increase our modules development system….
Like a non XOOPS standard could then receive a letter to inform people it may not translate or other feature…
Yet the idea is simplicity, as then for many of us who scan XOOPS daily for new releases. They don’t go and upload a new revision thinking it will be all ok when we should iron out first and make this clear.
A = Alpha newest release
B = Beta works yet in testing
C = Production, yet still bugs
D =
R = Repair
Z = Made by Zanda; don’t know what it is
As an Idea….
