Hi I bought a MySpace v8 Gold Edition ($149.97 USD)

And when I went to install it, I see that it is built entirely on XOOPS engine, with just a few modifications.

Is that legal?

I bought script from

In the install.txt file, after the install details it has this line "For the code that uses parts of the GPL here is a copy of the license for that part of the code:"

and then after that it has the XOOPS GNU text


anyways I'm just wondering if what they are doing is legal?

This has been discussed several times before.

In a nutshell...

As long as they retain the credits in the source code, and do not restrict what the end user does with the open source code once it is purchased, then yes, it is legal.

If you got this as a single package, then would you mind sending us back a copy of the source files you got ?

According to the GPL, as James said, they don't have the rights to restrict people on their own additions, so it would be nice to be able to check what they changed and see if we can't make everybody benefit from those changes.

It would be a fair return.

Really , this is crap you wated your money... Futhermore I am really perplex , how can you give so much money for sh*t , when there so many free CMS out there and the best one of them - XOOPS :P
