I am using Forum EX on my website - and its in its early stages so appearance is vital - and the smilies are broken. The link shows up as text, as in the html syntax for a link to the smilies. the smilies are there, the link checks out, but it seems like the forum program is putting something extra on the end. the forums are here: http://ghettonet.no-ip.org/~xoops/html/

I am totally open to switching to a better module if someone could tell me how to migrate the posts.

Ok because I havn't got anything yet (I understand you don't have much time) I'll change the question to: How can I switch from ForumEX to another forum module without losing my posts?
