the version of news module is 1.1
i can't edit the previous news. it said successfully update the news, but actually, it didn't. the content stays still.

then i opened the php-debug mode and found there is a warning at the bottom of news editing page, that comes

Notice [PHP]: Undefined variable: expired in file modules/news/admin/storyform.inc.php line 229

what's that mean? does it have relation with my problem? and how to resolve it?
