Blank page and server is setup

I do the install phase and after it gets to the page to check the database i get a blank page. I have checked the forums and put the php and also sql servers into test mode and nothing returns. I also made a .htaccess file like said and still get nothing. I use Appserv on windows xp and the website works just dont understand why it isnt working with XOOPS though? Any help would be greatful plz. Thank you and hopefully a wonderful day :)

Fatal error: MySQL extension not loaded in C:\AppServ\www\xoops\class\database\mysqldatabase.php on line 71

I get this error now?

I just ended up downgrading because of the problems with php5 :(

i also had the same problem.may i know what version u are using now.answer or sugesstion please.
