I'm running a site on 2.2.3 that has a very old version of the forum software running. (It says Forum version 1) It seems to function OK but I want to upgrade it to give people a few more features. Unfortunately when I try to move to a newer module I loose all my messages. Does anyone know of an upgrade path I can take that will preserve my messages?

you would need to go into phpmyadmin and backup your newbb tables. specifically you would want to backup you newbb_topics, newbb_categories, and newbb_posts tables. Then delets all of your newbb tables. uninstall your module. Install your new forums module. The one at a time inject your old tables into the new ones. this should restore your entire forum layout with categories topics and posts.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried it again before reading your post and noticed that CBB is not updating completely in module admin. The last line of text says "could not get post id." All the tables are still intact in the database but only the categories show up in the forum.

I tried your suggestion but got the same results. I guess my next try will be to uninstall the forum module, install the new one then try to load the data from my files...

Unless someone has a better idea?

Mario

Edit:

OK, that worked. Thanks a lot for the help.
