phpBB users to Xoops

Is it possible to just link the user accounts of phpbb and xoops, without to integrate the whole forum in the site. I want the forum to stay individual but XOOPS and phpbb to have one user database. I have a lot of modifications done on my phpbb and I don't want to lose them, XOOPS and phpbb are using identical themes so if it's possible to link the user database to... it will be perfect... any suggestions?

Come ooon... at least tell me which tables are edited on user registration so I can make my own synchronizing script...
