I see that there are two versions of XOOPS available, both recently updated...

Can anyone tell me the difference between them and why I would choose one over the other?

Xoops 2.2.x is the latest version with enhanced features.

Xoops 2.0.x is the older version, which is more stable with some modules (which may not always be written to follow all the rules...) and is a security update for those who wish to wait a bit longer before jumping to 2.2.x

This just my opinion.
But I would start out with 2.0.13.1 Full and then take a look at this site Xoops for Dummies and if that tutorial helps you out you can download the ebook of it HERE

Yeah I totally agree with you otr (btw, do you know about the OTR, off the recording).

I would stick to the stable version (2.0.13.1) since that works and you'll have much less problems with it.
