Can someone tell me if the ffmpeg that xoopsgallery can use is the one available at SurgeForge.net.

Is the file ffmpeg-0.4.9-pre1.tar.gz? I'm on a Linux server.

Thanks.

That doesn't tell us a lot. What flavor of Linux? RH,Fedora,Gentoo, etc. But most of the time you should use "yum" "apt" or what ever you use to update your system.

Try: 'yum install ffmpeg' or 'yum search ffmpeg' if it will not find. Then just enter the path.

Good luck!
P.S. As far as I know there is a final version of ffmpeg 0.4.9 not pre-release.

Thanks for the reply.
1. The site is hosted on a RH 7.3 box.
2. I can't run an install on the host server.
3. Any idea where to find the "Final" version?

Thanks.

Not sure how do you plan to install then. You still have to install ffmpeg. Not sure can you install that for a limited user or this has to be system wide install. Let me look into it.

By the way isn't RH7.3 a bit too old for a server? As far as I know RH is dropping or already dropped support for 7.3 ( Correct me if I'm wrong) meaning there might be some security holes that no one is patching any more. Consider upgrading server.

Do you have a shell access to your server? How do you plan to install it?

I must have been dreaming about stable ffmpeg The one you pointed out is the latest. I use it myself and had no problems so far.

I really don't have control over what verson of RH my hosting company uses... This isn't a local server to me, but a shared hosting server.

I didn't know if the package was just a matter of uploading the files to a directory on the server like netpbm is.

The only "shell" that I have access to is to move/create/delete file...

Re: Xoopsgallery and FFMPEG

Well, in that case you are out of luck. In order to install ffmpeg you have to have root privileges, you have to 'make' and then 'make install' and for that you need a real shell access. You can ask you service provider about it. If you can, try issuing a command 'which ffmpeg' when you ftp to your server, it will show you a path to ffmpeg to where it is if it is installed.

Good luck.
