Extended Profiles module availablilty

Hi there,

Does anyone know if the Extended Profiles module is available for earlier versions of XOOPS?

I believe this is a new feature for XOOPS 2.2, now being tested in 2.1.1.

You may want to have a look at Membership 0.9. I have not tested it but it may help you.

Thanks for your reply.

The membership 0.9 module is good but I need to add custom fields to the user profile.

I may try and upgrade to XOOPS 2.1.1 and try out the extended profile feature.

I'm a little cautious though because the website will be used by over 4,000 people (JET programme English teachers in Japan) so a stable version would be best.

I tried installing just the Extended Profiles module into XOOPS 2.0.9.2 but though it installed correctly, none of the admin pages were viewable.

I may try 2.1.1

How stable is XOOPS version 2.1.1 what is the risk?

It is currently a test version and not meant for production sites. The risk are that their may be bugs. It is not even a release candidate yet, it is still under development.

Do NOT put 2.1.1 (or CVS nightly) on a production server. I will not accept ANY responsibility for your site crashing or data becoming corrupted.

The Extended Profiles module is a front to a core feature that is available in 2.1.1 - it is not just an add-on module that gives that functionality.

You are free to try the 2.1 development version (take the CVS nightly instead of 2.1.1 as some bugs have already been fixed in that version) but it is still too early to say whether there will be more database changes.

Thanks for the advice.

I understand your position and appreciate the work you are doing very much.

The extended profiles feature is exactly what I have been looking for but perhaps I should be patient and wait for the development process to produce a stable version.

My time-constraint is that we have around 2,000 new teachers arriving in Japan in July/August and I need to have the membership database application up and running by then. I've been developing a separate system but it would be ideal to integrate it directly into XOOPS via profiles and groups.

In any case, I can only imagine the depth of work involved in creating a new XOOPS version. It's a great project and I think the XOOPS team are doing a fantastic job.

Keep up the good work!
