I am a newbie to Xooops and despite a whole morning's effort I cannot get it to work.

I have Apache 2.0.54
PHP 5.0.4
MySQL 4.1.12

MySQL works fine

The XOOOPS installer runs when I access http://localhost/

I filled in all the fields but after the installer shows the "Confirm database settings" page I get a blank white page with http://localhost/install/index.php showing in the address bar.

I have been through all the instructions in the Web FAQ to enable errors to show but I still get no clue what has gone wrong.

I realise that a "Blank Page Error" is not very helpful but how do I get it it show errors so I can progress this?

Replying to my own post

I have done a bit more delving. I am not a PHP expert but by a bit of sleuthing using "echo" lines to trace it through the scripts I have tracked the offending line down to
$xoopsDB =& XoopsDatabaseFactory::getDatabaseConnection();

in \include\common.php

No error messages though although I have enabled everything I can think of.

So I presume that there is some problem with my database login. I really cannot think what I have done wrong. I am using root as the user and the correct password. I can log into MySQL using the MySQL command line client

Any ideas anyone?

I have finally sorted it out. It was due to PHP5. When I uninstalled this and installed PHP4 it suddenly worked

I realise that the installation file says that it works with PHP4 - however it would be really helpful to have a warning that it doesnt work with v5

I hope this is of help to others

Hi Peter!

I am having the same problem as you.
But I have PHP Version 4.3.10, so its not only in version 5.

Can any one else tell me what to do?
Im running a Mandrake Linux system with Apache2 and PHP 4.3.10.
