Problem Sending Emails...

I've usually been able to fix most XOOPS issues on my own, but I'm stuck with this problem. I recently changed providers to a free host that doesn't allow mail() sending, but there's a thread on the official forums here that says you can. I'd like to use the built in mail server if I can, but if I have to use SMTP is there a good free server I can use that would allow website use ect? Thanks.
