I have monkeyed around with spotlight and superspotlight (great module btw) to acheive what xoops.org is using as there "Latest XOOPS News" any idea's for me...?

I believe I read that this type block will be incorporated in News 1.3.

Another approach is to use custom blocks. This module called Blockies will get you close.
