Hi, appearently my verison of Fantastico installed XOOPS 1.1

This means my news module can't render two colums.

Ok, so I need to upgrade to 1.3, right?

Tried that, I think. that upgrade comes with two folders: class and includes. It tells you to simply upload these two folders, but when I did that, my 1.1 XOOPS crashed.

What am I doing wrong?

Actually, all I want is that new version of the News module.

Is there an easier to get that?

Ric

Re: How to Upgrade?

Hi council,

Modules come with readme files that explain (some better than others) how to install or upgrade.

For most modules just uploading to the server overwriting the previous version and updating the module in the Modules Administration page is enough.

Others have upgrade scripts. These scripts are written to upgrade a certain version to a certain version. They are PHP files.

So for News 1.2.1 (the latest) from the builtin news here is what you want to do.

Uzip the xoops_news_1.2.1 archive on your local computer.

Open the folder until you see a folder named news.
Open that folder to make sure you see folders like Amin, class, includes and so on. Go up one level back to the news folder, this is what you want to upload.

Read the upgrade.txt in the folder root.
It explains to update your module normally then run a script to complete the upgrade.

If I did not give you enough information, reply back.

thanks, but a few thanks are unclear.

Where do I find the 1.2 News module?

I've looked in the module repository and there's nothing there.

Also, how do trackbacks work with xoops?

Found the upgrade there, but nothing on trackbacks. Also, where do I set my meta tags?

Meta tags are set up in Administration Menu, preferences, meta tag and footer. Click on edit and you can add your keywords and all there.

Trackbacks, I have heard it discussed before but have not seen any viable solutions.
