Hi all

I'm trying to write a music database. I have set up a sample index page and the bio of one artist( these are writen in html at moment till I find what is needed).
I would like some feed back as to what people think and if things should be changed or added.
The site is : Media Recyclers just click on the music database link.

Thanks to all in advance.

Thank you.

Once I find out what people are looking for and what they think about the site, I will start to try and code it. If all goes well I will submit as a module.

Thanks

I'd recommend checking out "Debaser" - as this is a reasonable module that was never finished... a few people are using it - and it has a few decent features.

But, as I said, it was never properly finished.

It may give you a few ideas.

One feature I would strongly suggest, is for it to be able to link to other modules for either each artist - or each release - ie discussion (forum), articles (wf-sections/whatever) and so forth....

Thanks I'll look into that.

A long time ago I came accross CDBase which I thought was pretty good, bit buggy , but ok. I can't seem to find this any more, that is the main reason I thought I would have a go and write my own.

You may want to also check out this updated version of cdbase as well:

Hi davidl2. Thanks for pointting me to these others, I'll look into them.

Seen as you are the only one with some feed back, I have a couple of questions.

1: Do you think links to mp3's of the songs listed should be displayed?

2: On the main index page, should I put a count of songs by that artist next to their name eg. Abba (20) ?

Thanks
Basza

I think both of these are good ideas, but they should be optional for each entry.... for legal reasons people may want to avoid putting mp3s - although they may decide to add short 30 second recordings at a later date.

The numbers of entries - again a good idea, but if its optional - it may be better for some users.

One big problem with CDBase (which I'm going to cheat with if I use!) is that artists cannot have more than one genre - but some artists may make more than one type of artist.

Here's an example.... Tammy Wynett (sorry - my spelling is terrible!) - the Country and Western Singer.... although Country and Western is her main genre, she did make one pop record (with the KLF - Justified & Ancient) ...
