Menu design question

Hey guys
i'm a bit new to themes (sorry for borring questions) and i'd like to add some effects to my menus. I need your help please.
Here's what i'd like to do :
With the main menu and user menu, i'd like to add a space between the cells + i'd like to add a border to my menu (not the cells border, but a real container border).

Hi gravity,

I'm no theme expert either, but I'll have a shot

You should be able to do this using custom templates, or probably the better way would be to edit the mainmeny and usermenu items in you themes CSS file to include the changes you want.

Thx for your answer Brash.
I already knew what u told me. I looked in the css file and the html file but unfortunately i can't do what i want to do. I also took a look at the system_mainmenu.html file with no success.
Please i need help on that (take a look at the picture).
