Call a value from an excel document?

I am wondering if it would be possible to call a value from a field in an excel document on my server and display it somewhere in my XOOPS page?

What I am trying to do is this:

I want to call a % value for each user on my XOOPS site from a excel document that I update regurarly and display that % value in either just a block or in the userinfo for that user..

Any suggestions?

I am sure that php should have the ability to get information from an excel document, or am I way off?
