yeah, nice work there . Visually very appealing I think, but at over 200k (36 http requests) for the whole site it is getting a little on the large side. No real issue for broadband users, but as most people are still on dial up it will take up around the 30 second mark which is getting a bit long. Overall though, great work!

Hi theprof,

In a nutshell you need to reduce both HTTP requests and total site size. Sounds simple, but often is not and generally means making compromises between how you want your site to look, and how you want it to perform for your low bandwidth users. This is a balance that is independant to each webmasters preferences really, go too far either side and your site may well suffer though.

You really need to pin down eactly what you want displayed on your sites front page. As it is I think there is perhaps too much content on your front page. You have 8 news items, 7 polls and several other modules and custom blocks. Ideally I would be looking at having no more than about 100K to load from you front page. Do a google search for "IBM page detailer basic" which is a tool that when used with Internet explorer breaks down how your website loads into the browser. In my opinion it is a must have tool for optimizing your site.

Great job on the site it looks good. May I asks what kind of calendar module you used? It doesn't look like Agenda-X -- is it PiCal? How did you change the colors?

Brash, that bit of advice on the IBM page detailer was one of the best pieces of info laid down here. Thanks, I'm gonna look into that too.
