We would like to use XOOPS in our member section. You could say as a second website in our main site. I have a few questions about this if we follow the instructions provided.
Does XOOPS replaces our main site?
is this possible?
How should we do this in a safe way?

what is your current site?

It can replace your current site if you wish or it could compliment your current site, depends on how far you wish to take it.

do you have a URL of your site?

Perhaps:http://www.animals-online.be/ ?

This would work well as a XOOPS site... very informative it is as well.

Our site is a combination of HTML and PHP. Mainly with php includes. Our intention is that XOOPS should be for Members Only with no replacement of our current site. More like an add-on with a link in the member section to Xoops.
Petjes Place. The site is still in development.

It should be fairly easy to do... Put the XOOPS installation to: www.mysite.com/members/ - and just link to as normal via a HTML link.

Thx for the help davidl2. Installed succesfully and checking it out now. It looks very promising. Some users here in the forums find XOOPS very difficult to handle. If i'm stuck, i will come to the forums and look for the answer it's that simple bye
