Hi,

New users are having problem registering at the site
'cos the mail server is not set up..I am hosting the
XOOPS website on a different machine than the one on
which my mailserver is running.

I specified my maildelivery method as SMTP

SMTP hosts : mail.mymailserver.com
SMTPauth username : trial11
SMTPauth password :********

i even started the default smtp delivery on the
machine on which i am hosting the XOOPS website

Can any one help pls?

Thanks,
Ann

Hi Ann,

Does your mail server require authentication? If not, have you tried using standard SMTP instead of SMTAuth? Have you tried using IP address instead of host name? If none of that works, what OS and Mail server are you using?

Are you sure that you need to use an external SMTP server at all? The (default) PHP mailer works fine if the server isn't blocked by firewall or ISP.

Just understand that sending mail doesn't mean you have to use a mail server. And SMTP is not the same as POP3/IMAP. <--just making sure if you don't already know.

Hi,

The PHP Mailer wouldn't work for me..But as per the suggestions, I tried giving the IP address of the mailserver instead of the name and now it works fine..

Now i have

Mail Delivery Method : SMTP
SMTP hosts : xx.xx.xxx.xxx

My mailserver is linux machine running qmail.

It works well now..

Thanks for all the help.
