with the new laws in effect for Can Spam. is XOOPS planning on making a more detailed newsletter system?

there should be some way in the site for members to sign up for newsletter without going into their profile. somewhere where they can join and quit a newsletter subscription just by entering email and either pressing Quit newsletter or Join Newsletter.
but I think it should be an actual XOOPS Feature. over the last couple of years XOOPS has become more and more used by business professional and not just developers websites and I think it is an important feature.
what do you all think?
maybe something for 2.1.x

Do a search for a module called evennews. This has a page with subscribe and unsubscribe then a section in admin to make newsletters. I think you can also use html in the letters
