Expiration of News items on number instead of date?

Hi All,

I was just wondering if there was anyway to expire News articles going on number rather than date? For instance, on my site I don't really want to be having more than 10 active news articles at a time, so if I could set anything outside of the most recent 10 could be automatically archived, it would be a lot more suitable to my needs.
