Hello lukasz,
Well, your question comes at a good moment in time because there are some very interesting threads going on about this. Kenogui and Reynaldo have posted hacks here detailing fairly simple ways to make friendly URLs.
Google has been the leader in indexing urls with query strings, but many other S/Es do not.
My interest is this is due to reletively high ranking I have with my plain old html site which I want to recover once I transfer the content to XOOPS.
Some other threads in this forum have highlighted problems of upgrading versions of XOOPS because of transfering all their hacks to the new version. Yes, it does need some organisation.
Despite my own personal enthusiasm to see a hack like the URL re-write function integrated into the XOOPS standard scripts,
I also recognise and validate the need for full and rigourous testing and approval of these ideas before implementation.
We would need a global view of how a hack would effect the overall operation of the core files. Maybe there are policy preferences that we are not always aware of. Does it fit in with the "roadmap plan" Do we have good agreement from the community, are there security issues?? Probably more considerations as well!
So how to proceed? My feeling is to lay out our ideas right here in the forums, guage the interest and response from community members with special attention to the comments and input from XOOPS webmasters and developers. This is both a respectful organic way to move forwards.
Another important thing is to provide useful feedback to the authors of the hacks. Well, some of that was off topic, but maybe an invitation for more comment??
Have alook at the hacks I mentioned... Richard
