I would like to upgrade the search function.

On the first results page I woul like to show that this is the first ? results of ?total? results

After I click on the show all at the bottom I would like
to have the page show (1 thru 20) of ?total? results.

I know the page to work with is search.php and I can tweek the number of results to show but that is about it.

Any help would be appreciated.
