This also did the trick for me after changing to custom session... Thanks a lot!

This really should be highlighted somewhere because it was incredibly hard to find but completely fixed the problem. I really do owe you a drink!

i agree this should be posted in a visible place ,i did upgrade some sites to 2.018 and got really scare... lucky me i found this post.

now my question is... if that was false

var $enableRegenerateId = false;

changing it to true, does that make it insecure for our XOOPS sites in any way ?

i ask becasue , if was set to false, must be for a reason right?

I had this problem and changed it and it seemed to work but now some modules will not let me in the admin area

and with other sites you change this and if you also have other session problems and clear sessions or repair session table then no one can log in
