xoops 2.5.9 and extGallery

I am testing the extgallery from here https://github.com/mambax7/extgallery and xoops 2.5.9

First I have made a couple of changes to get the module working.

I have created 2 categories and added images to it. Everything worked fine.
Then I created a third category and now I get a fatal error Quote:
Call to a member function getVars() on boolean in \xoops259\modules\extgallery\class\ExtgalleryPersistableObjectHandler.php on line 235

ok I get this error only if I assign a category image

I know now what was wrong.

You can set a not approved photo as a category image. if you do so you will get a error
