Yasir i dont think your site is very big so the newbb should handle it.
i have newbb 3.08 and xoops 2.5.5 without any problem in my big website.
The forum is rather big and only PREFIX_bb_posts_text table size is 305MB
I suggest to upgrade to newbb 3.08
also i strongly recommend you to upgrade your xoops version to xoops 2.5.5 and using protector.
Please configure your protector module very carefully.
your protector can prevent crawlers and DOS attackers.

I've observed lately that it seems like hosts are getting more and more picky about queries, as they try to squeeze more users into a shared server. I got suspended once because of piCal: it stored all "repeated" past events, and the bots were accessing them, and it was creating too much performance issue for other users on that server.

It's almost like the host companies, even if they offer you 250GB space with PHP and MySQL, they expect you to run a Website containing only few static HTML pages

As you are well informed, the size of db is not really important but queries are our big challenge.
My website is in a shared server (but the server is strong with a 8-core cpu and over 20Gig RAMs).
Like any other shared hosting, my website has a limited access to server resources and in the past server admins warned me several times about high loading and abuses.
But after upgrading to 2.5.4 and now 2.5.5 i didnt receive any warning from them.
Of course i configured the protector and set some limitations for the access of bots and also i enabled a custom made math captcha (for registration and ...) .
I dont have any spam now and everything goes smoothly.

I think your website is arabic so you can implement this math captcha using "Arabic Numbers". i implement this captcha in my persian website and i dont have any registered bots or spam post in one month while before that i and other admins had to struggle with more than 5 bots everyday.
The persian/arabic numbers option has a huge advantage for our websites so i recommend you to use that.
I will create one topic in xoops.org about this captcha very soon.

which is more stable newbb 3.08 or 4.x?

i new how much difference servers may have because i transfer my website every while, every hosting company drove me crazy somehow,that make me go away

i think i have to stop using shared servers!

As you can see 3.08 is the most stable version.
You can upgrade from 3.07 to 3.08 smoothly and i dont think there are much differences both in codes and languages.
the big difference come from xoops 2.5.5 so please upgrade your website immediately.
