This module is great! Many thx.
I was a bit concerned about having to use one category per block, but it can display several articles in each block with thumbnails, so it looks pretty good.

It may not be exactly what you want, but this is the best News spotlight module I know of for Xoops. If you try this, here are a couple of tips:
1) Ensure the folder you upload to the modules directory is called xf_newsmod_blocks.
2) If you want to apply CSS to the blocks, you need to clone the module templates and remove the space from the CSS class name found near the top of the code in each template. E.g. from:
<div class="xf_block one">
to:
<div class="xf_block_one">
