Don't feel bad I have the same problem and have not been able to solve this.

What I do is:

I update my templates offline on my PC

Upload them I think with module update the default template should be updated now but that does not allways work for me.

So I upload it in to my cloned template in the Template Set Manager.

That works but now the clone becomes your default template if you deleted you loose all the work.
