GoDaddy Auto Install

Who worked with GoDaddy on the auto install?
- It could use some work.

Such as:
- The folder for xoops_data and xoops_lib should be requested and named in the install.
- The xoops_data and xoops_lib names should be renamed.

- The database prefix should be prompted for and changed.

Extras:
- Starting the program:
o In DEBUG mode.
o with the site TURNED OFF.

The only block initially installed is the SYSTEM block.

Protector should be installed.

The other base blocks should be installed.

We have nothing to do with their install program - they did it themselves. So feel free to provide them with the feedback directly.

We recommend to use the original XOOPS installer.

Arvixe is a good XOOPS loaded hosting service, and they help sponsor XOOPS.

Go-Daddy will kick sites off their network if you say something politically incorrect on it, and difficult to get your domain back if you want to go somewhere else.

I just transferred several Websites for various clients to Arvixe, and all of them are very happy with the performance! One client had a dedicated server, and now we have the site on a "Business Class", and the performance is excellent, and the client will be able to save tons of money.

And they don't make you look a the (dated) Danica Patrick all the time.

I did provide them with some feedback.

So there is no talk between ya'll and GoDaddy?

XOOPS is currently way down on the list of auto-installed. Okay, doesn't even show on the list of most popular installs. Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal are the top three of course. Even Simple Machine Forum is on this last. (Not including Zen cart as that is a different category of product..)

Joomla even has a menu option for paid templates.

To find XOOPS, well, it is 11th on a list of 11 content managers (alphabetic order). No promotion. Lousy install.

A better install, with the xoops_data/xoops_lib automatically broken out and renamed, along with a group of preinstalled, standard modules would go a long way to improving the rating of XOOPS for this company.

In due time this will be a very simple thing to accomplish. Not today but soon.

XOOPS beats all of these combined for security and hack resistance, especially Joomla. Most hack attempts are directed at Joomla, VTiger and WordPress sites. The fact that XOOPS is not as popular (yet) decreases probability of widespread generic exploits being developed against it.
