I installed a skin. GreymeetsPurple i believe.

I just unzipped the package and put in in the same folder my other skins are in. Selected the skin in the admin panel Reloaded and *poof*. I simply get a white page now. I can't even set it back now.

I probably did something wrong but right now i'm just testing the software out to see if i like it or not so i haven't really read much documentation yet.

While i am here, i did check out other members XOOPS site and i notice i get a blank page for a few seconds, and the panel at the botton of IE says "Done". Then suddenly it loads the correct page.
Can i avoid this 'lag'. I thought the page wasn't working and that's what my visitors will think to.

Next how can i backup my site. I wouldn't want to have a complete website go *poof* because i made a mistake and need to redo all the work.

Is there a way to make the URL look like 'www.mysite.com/index.html' instead of 'www.mysite.com/mudules/news'?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm really deciding if i want to go with the software or not before i wrestle myself through all the documentation.

As far as the theme problem, it is most likely a case of an extra folder created by the archive.

See my Theme Deployment flash tutorials on this subject.

You can set it back tho... just hit yoursite.com/admin.php - go to preferences, change the theme back to default or whatever & viola, ur site still exists.

I've noticed that too on some heavier XOOPS sites, often on this one for some reason. I believe its just a matter of the browser processing the page, same as with any website.

Search the module repository for the "backup" module, it works nicely for this task. I've had to start from scratch a zillion times for lack of keeping regular backups, this module helps remind you with its 'backup' block.

In preferences, set "Module for your start page" to none, then populate your front page with block content. You wont have yoursite.com/index.html, instead you'll have yoursite.com/index.php. Works nicely.

As far as these things go, XOOPS is one of the best free content solutions out there - however, its not worth much if you don't know what to do with it. Suffer thru the documentation, it's worth it ;)

Hope this helps :)

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't have the time to work on this again before.

I tried to do so but i get the message i don't have sufficient privileges to access the page and it forwards me to the empty main page again.

Thanks for your other awnsers.

When testing a new theme, you should use the theme selection block, whose effect is temporary, rather than changing the default theme.

You can reset the theme to the default in the XOOPS MySQL database, using phpMyAdmin or an equivalent tool. Locate the row in the xoops_config table with conf_modid = 0 and conf_name = "theme_set", and change conf_value to "default".

XOOPS 2.0.10?

Then there should be a config table. If there isn't, I wouldn't expect XOOPS to run at all.
