Hi,

I have XOOPS 2.0.3 running and I was wondering if an upgrade to version XOOPS 2.0.5.2 is usefull? Is it worth to upgrade to that version?

Re: Upgrade or not?

Short answer: Yes

Longer answer: 2.0.5.2 has a range of bugfixes and security issues resolved, so it is definitely a good step to take.
All modules working under 2.0.3 should work under 2.0.5.2

Hi Mithrandir,

From another post I know your the upgrade man. Is it easy to upgrade? Is there a short description on how to? Maybe I did not look that good on the site.

All I can say is "winmerge"...

http://winmerge.sourceforge.net/

It's simple, it lets you catch your unique changes, and it's free... I couldn't have upgraded to 2.0.5 without it (I'm not sure, but it might have been Mithrandir who recommended it to me in the first place!)

Cheers,
Keith

afaik it is just a matter of uploading the files in the 2.0.5.2 patch to overwrite the existing ones. No templates or database tables have changed, I think.

Not more to it.

Hi Mithrandir,

I downloaded the zip file and in it are 3 directories. If I upload the contens of the html directory over my older version it should do the trick? I just want to make sure since I am sure I would screw it up.

Well, looking at the download page, it seems that there is not a direct 2.0.3 -> 2.0.5.2 patch, so it may be easier just downloading the entire package and then reupload, overwriting existing files.

Shouldn't break anything, if you haven't made any custom changes.

Actually, I just combined the 2.0.3 -> 2.0.5 patch with the 2.0.5 -> 2.0.5.1 and 2.0.5.2 patches

found here

So uploading/overwriting the contens of the html directory in that zip file should do it?

Re: Upgrade or not?

It should, yes

No guarantees though (but the worst thing that can happen is that you'll need to make a backup of the mainfile.php and then upload the full 2.0.5.2 and the backed up mainfile.php + re-set directory permissions) - it shouldn't affect your database at all.
