The core development team is planning on releasing XOOPS 2.0.17.1 Final in approximately one week.

If you haven't tested 2.0.17.1 RC yet, please try to do so, and report any bugs promptly.

Re: XOOPS 2.0.17.1 Final

I've installed rc1 on three live sites so far. All is good on this end except one little issue...

After install I always delete the install directory and chmod mainfile before I even log in.

So anyway once I log into the site and hit admin it asks you.

This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed.

So I have done this on three different installs I hit the button and a error says

"fail to open file"

Its a very breif error that displays over the green shade once you click the button.

Otherwise I have not been able to find any errors.

So XOOPS failed to open what file?

I don't recall encountering that.

I searched for the string "fail to open file", but couldn't find it. But I found "failed open file" in two places in include/cp_functions.php, at lines 277 and 303. These are writes to the files cache/adminmenu.php and cache/index.php, respectively.

Is your cache directory writeable?

Re: XOOPS 2.0.17.1 Final

The message goes by so fast because im on Fios that i can hardly see it but it is there! I had to get my girl to read it on the last install. Thats what she thought it said.

Anyway all three of the new sites have 0777 on the cache directory per WinSCP before the install and even now after the install. The installer gave green lights on all chmod before install.

And the files cache/adminmenu.php and cache/index.php were created?

What is WinSCP?

cache/adminmenu.php
cache/index.html

This above is all I see.

cache/index.php is not in the folder on all three sites.

-----

WinSCP is "secure ftp" sftp that uses putty.

Best I have ever used.

I also have xoopseditor.php.

adminmenu.php (and xoopseditor.php) need to be writeable, too.

I got the error that script_fu refers to when moving a site from one server to another and adminmenu.php wasn't writeable.

I only have the two files above in my cache folder. Are there more files missing?

The upgrade instructions in the Upgrade directory are wrong.

Quote:

Upgrade script instructions
--------------------------------------------

- Unzip the package
- Upload the *CONTENT* of the htdocs directory to your XOOPS root directory
- Upload the upgrade *FOLDER* inside your XOOPS root directory
- Login as an administrator
- Point your browser : /upgrade/
- Follow the instructions
- DELETE THE upgrade FOLDER YOU JUST UPLOADED TO YOUR SERVER !!!

These instructions do not tell you to delete mainfile.php and the Install folder from htdocs before uploading. That's a disaster waiting to happen. Correct instructions are in release_notes.txt.

You shouldn't have to look for the right instructions, and they certainly should be in the Upgrade folder. That's the first place anyone would look. And, IMHO, the instructions should be in a file named "upgrade.txt".

Provided your mainfile.php on the remote server had the correct CHMOD setting of 444 then it wouldn't be overwritten.

However, I do agree with what you say about the correct instructions and where they should be located.
