I just installed XOOPS 2.0.9beta & I looked for a few new themes? How come all the themes are .zip files but my version of XOOPS only accepts .tar.gz files.

Should I download XOOPS 2.0.7

you can unzip the file... and put the theme folder in the "XOOPS_URL/themes/".

then go to admin menu -> system -> preferences -> general config to change the theme.

You may want to take a look at the wiki page Themes Vs Templates.

You seem to have been looking at the template section, where one can only upload tar.gz. The thing is, a few themes also come with template sets. That is when you will need the Template Manager in connection with themes.
