Is it possible to edit templates?

I know you can open them in the Admin Panel, but I only see a "view" button, and that doesn't help at all because I press that, close out, and it doesn't save the changes.

Is this even possible?

Administration > System Admin > Templates

Clone the template set firstly. After that you can edit the cloned template set. In the Preferences you can select the cloned template set as standard for your site.
