Do I need to do anything special since the site that I am helping admin is RC2 or 2.0.6... or can I just follow the regular upgrade path?

There is no other way around and you will have to follow the regular upgrade path. If you want to be through, download WinMerge or other comparing software, compare your RC2 with 2.0.6 to make sure if you have got all the right files, then upgrade.

Back up your whole site first before upgrade.

Next time, don't use RC (Release Candidate) version for your production site. It will save you tons of headache.

Thanks for the info! Unfortunatly the RC route was chosen before I was involved with the site. I'm also not sure how well the compare software will work since the site has a few hacks... but I'll give it a try.

Also, does anyone know if the dababase is the same between 2.0.6 RC2 and the actual release version? If so, then I should (with a little luck) be able to over-write the site files with a copy of 2.0.6 and then update all of the modules in the admin without loosing any user data (like forum posts, etc). Right?

There are no database changes in the core from 2.0.6 -> 2.0.7 release
