you should provide at least the php mysql version.
Its better to provide whole phpinfo()
then we can help you.

For PHP 5.4.x, he can try to test the XOOPS 2.5.6 Alpha. This is basically XOOPS 2.5.5 with some functions made "static", so PHP 5.4 doesn't complain about it. It seems to work fine on my installation, but I would like to receive more test results.

But I don't see problems with MySQL 5.5 and XOOPS 2.5.5. What problems did you observe?

Yes xoops 2.5.6 works for me.
Also i dont test xoops in mysql 5.5 but IMO you are right because in many cases there is a problem with php version.
Anyway, im nearly sure the issue in this topic is a server configuration issue.
