XOOPS Survey for marketing research project

XOOPS started a marketing research project with a group of students from the HES School of Economics and Business. One of project's goals is to find out what the community and visitors to the XOOPS site think of the product in general, and how XOOPS can be improved. For this purpose a survey has been created.

Both XOOPS and the students in the project group count on your assistance in this research, which should lead to a better XOOPS.

We hope you will take some time to complete this survey, which you can find at
http://www.createsurvey.com/c/31498-ygF1kD/

Extra information:
Rating question with 1 - 5 only should be interpreted as 1 being the lowest rating and 5 the highest.

Some questions have an optional character but were created as mandatory, when you wish not to answer them just put "N/A" as an answer or something similar.

XOOPS For Dummies and MyPage Mirrored

As of recent, the XOOPS for Dummies guide was pulled offline. In the interest of maintaining this valuable resource to the community, the XOOPS for dummies documentation has been temporarily mirrored at MyWebResource.

Link:http://mywebresource.com/xfd/

The permanent home of the XOOPS for Dummies guide has yet to be determined, but I will make sure that the guide remains available until the permanent home is decided.

Also, the MyPage module download was removed at the same time as the XOOPS for Dummies documentation. Personally, I have found this to be one of the most versatile and handy little modules around. In the interest of keeping this module available, I've recreated the module with a couple small changes. You can now download the PageWrap module (renamed from MyPage) at MyWebResource as well.

Link: PageWrap Module Download Page

Please Note: The XOOPS for Dummies guide and the MyPage module are the original work of JackJ and I take NO credit for his work. He has made a tremendous contribution to this community with these two resources and should be thanked appropriately. I have found these resources to be indispensable and am eternally grateful for them. Thank you JackJ!

The sole reason I've chosen to mirror JackJ's work is to ensure that this resource will always be available to those who need it.

Best Regards,

JMorris

Implementing PhpAdsNew into your Xoops site

Resized ImageIT Headquarters is proud to present a comprehensive guide to implementing PhpAdsNew into your Xoops site. PhpAdsNew is one of, if not THE most popular ad management server on the web today and is very deserving of being on your short-list. For a long time the question of how to get a more sophisticated ad management system into Xoops has been asked, and if you do a search for 'PhpAdsNew' in the forums you will get well over 100 results spanning back to 2002 (it's a question I've even asked myself). By writing this article I hope to help answer this question, and give people a resource that can have them up and going at a basic level in just a few minutes.

This guide is aimed toward those with some experience with both Xoops and PhpAdsNew, and covers the implementation of PhpAdsNew into Xoops at the theme, template and custom block level. With this guide you'll have all the building blocks you need to be able to start planning for any implementation of PhpAdsNew into Xoops, big or small. I hope you enjoy it, and that it is of some value to you.

Xoops Norway reopened

www.xoops.no went down some time ago. Too bad, I thought, so I adopted the domain and set up a minimal support site.

The new version is not thought to be a major traffic site, it'll only be a place for downloading updated Norwegian language files for the core and the most important modules.

I've thought about making the site bilingual (Norwegian and English), but for now I'm concentrating on making fresh translations. If you've got some updated Norwegian language files lying around, feel free to contibute!

Some XOOPS Documentation Available

Xoops.org recently recovered from a hackers attack to its server. Unfortunately the Documentation Site is still closed and documentation is still not available to the general user.

I have decided to host on My personal website some backup files that I had saved during the documentation editing process. This is only a small selection of the full documentation, but covers some of the essential reading and guides for Xoops CMS. We hope to restore the full documentation files as soon as possible.

Software Patents: Defend The Future

On Wednesday 6th July (less than 20 hours from now) the European Parliament will have its last chance to prevent the implementation of the software patents directive. This directive is a USA style patents system on software that if passed will result in European software developers not owning what they write. To be successful 367 of the 732 members must be present and vote for the right amendments, such as the Buzek-Rocard-Duff amendments.

If you are a European citizen, you MUST act now, this is NOT a drill, and the corporations that have been pushing this directive for the last few years now have unprecedented support and are literally just hours away from having the entire European software industry by the neck. INCLUDING OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS!

Get involved NOW, as if this directive passes it will be next to impossible to get any of it reversed!! Every single vote counts!!

The Economic Majority Against Software Patents (XOOPS.org joined this group!)

No Software Patents
