1 the XPress will be kept as much independent as possible
2 the XoopsNotSys is kind of out of date to me (we have some experimental work, which could be considered for a pubic review after the new XOOPS architecture is ready)

Re: XPress (WordPress for XOOPS) 2.02 releaseSure, however on the XOOPs 2.0.x version there's a 'Frameworks' folder in the package you'll need to copy to your web root; not needed if you're running a 2.2.x version.

it appears as though wordpress messes up the search function of xoops.
my guess after a quick look: in search.php, there is a var called $mids (which contains the module ids being searched) this is set from the query string.
this var controls the modules being searched.
in wp-settings.php (which is included from the search file) there is this:
foreach ( $input as $k => $v )
if ( !in_array($k, $noUnset) && isset($GLOBALS[$k]) )
unset($GLOBALS[$k]);
which appears to unset vars of the stuff in the querystring. probably including mids.
