YAXS: Site of the Month - The Results of Month September 2005

On XOOPS Factory we finished the period of voting for the month september. BIG thanks to all who have found some time to look at the nominations, to fill in the voting form, helped and participated.

This month there were 128 votings and many comments. Some said that there were too many nominations, which was too hard to look at and visit all. In future we will limit the nominations to a number of 10 to 15. There are no restrictions to nominate a site, so you can nominate a site for each month. We will take care that each submission will take part at least once.

And ... the winner is ... viapontedinona.it

I'm a little disappointed to see that boardstyle.nl didn't get up, but them the breaks. Congratulations to viapontedinona.it on their win ! And thanks again to Michael for continuing his efforts with this competition !

As always when voting is involved, the result can be coloured by biased votes etc. but that's just life.

We'll just have to do our best to sweep the legs away under people, so even though a site has a lot of followers, even if all of them vote for that site, the best site will still win.

thanks for all the feedback and the participation. Yes, we can talk about the way of voting again. I was happy to have more votings than the month before, though it was hard for me to filter all these mails.

I wasn't my preffered site from view of theming and layout, who has won, but i do not vote either ;)

I think the winner has taken the chance to motivate their user and visitors to vote for them.

Someone told me that there is a kind of form module like liaise which i could use for filling out the voting form but which saves the submissions into db. This would make it easier for me to filter IP, email and things.
Of course i did monitoring on the sites stats and check submissions as said.

If I would have asked all my members to vote for BoardStyle the results would have been as shocking as unfair (over 1000 members of wich 100 show up daily). That's why I have never mentioned this competition on the website. Hopefully this competition will not become a challenge for website with the most active community, but remains a competition for best (or best looking) website of the month.

yes, it's not that i can't feel like you, but how to handle this. Allow only voting from one member of a site or community?

I'd like to have a closed voting, which wil mean a registration, but then we won't have much votings at all.

So let's try it this way and of course i'm willing to learn

Formulize might be just what you're looking for here. It's quite powerful and can even export reports to .csv

I'm glad there was more participation this time around. I too believe this competition should be about the best site/best design winning, not the most active community. That's one of the reason's I haven't submitted my site.

It's just not that unique, whereas sites like http://boardstyle.nl/ and http://www.computerworld.dk/ are very unique and very well designed. But that's just my 2 cents.

Did the webmaster write a complete set of modules for this website? Most(If not all) of the modules used in this site are not available to download!
If so, then Well done to the webmaster/developer!
<Edit> I am pretty sure now that this website should be a custom Xoops. It is not using any module developed by the XOOPS community for free, and the only way you can find out that it is using XOOPS is to view the page source code which indlues Xoops' default keywords for searching.

Most of it is one module that I'm looking into releasing to the community.
The main problems with this is:
1) It is PHP5-specific
2) It uses some small hacks and custom Smarty functions
3) It is integrated with Apache's Lucene search engine through a Java daemon
4) It is connected to a couple of other modules through XMLHTTP

I'm trying to strip it down so that it can be used as any other XOOPS module, but it'll take a little while.

Mith,I would really apperciate if you could kindly give a brief discription of your work !
I think this would help the users alot, since I'm 100% sure they wouldn't want to have the same modular paths as many other websites. (Every other website which is using not clonned news module uses /modules/news/ root.)
