Note that this release is (near) identical to the Nightly CVS, so even if there is not a formal release, you can still keep up with the development.

Love the recovery.php file, something quite usefull...

I tried a new install to test, but I'm experiencing some troubles.

2. When installing a module that hasn't got any admin, but got preferences it also gets listed in the "Module" menu. This confused me, might edit it.

3. The default theme seems to be designed for resolutions higher then 1024x768. (At the right the complete text doesn't get on the screen)

4. No default site title or slogan (or at least not on my install), normal?

Hope those things get fixed soon.

Re. real name used, it is because we are experimenting with using the real name as display name instead of username.
If a cracker doesn't know your username it will be quite a bit more difficult to crack your account.

@LB - With "more specific" I meant explain "still doesn't work". This is an Alpha release meaning that you should be prepared to face bugs here and there and as much information you can give on the problem, the higher chance of it getting fixed quickly.

I hope you like that part of it (I know the interface for adding/removing/customising fields for registration form/edit user form/user profile is still somewhat clumsy, but I will work on that - feel free to suggest improvements)

About the field errors, does your MySQL user have permissions to alter a table? I don't understand why some fields work and others don't.

In Administration Menu -> Modules -> Extended Profiles -> Fields, you can edit each field (to a smaller or bigger degree, depending on the field's properties) and set it visible on

- a user's profile depending on the user's groups
- a user's profile depending on the visitor's groups
- registration form
- edit form depending on the user's groups

After updating from from 2.0.10 (I followed the update instructions) it seems like XOOPS doesn't see all registered users anymore. At first sight I cannot find the 'search' or 'edit user' menu option (which I think is strange?), like in XOOPS 2.0.x administration. When I search for users in the frontend memberlist it says "0 users". I also cannot assign users to groups: there are no users in the list, but it still shows part 1 and part 2, because of >200 users.

Physically the users are still in the mysql database, so they're not deleted or something.

This is just a test server, but I think maybe it's useful to report it

[edit] Also the user.php doesnt work (view account). I just get returned to the homepage.

And 'Extended profiles' in modules admin doesn't work (white page).

It shouldn't be noticeably slower than previous versions. Can you quantify? (load times before/after)

Doublecheck the permissions for the webmaster group in Administration Menu -> Users -> Groups
When you say "cannot access" how does it show? Which error or redirect message do you get?

Rickh, there is a bug in the update script that results in the users being messed up afterwards (bug located, fixed and will be available in the CVS Nightly tomorrow)

See my earlier reply about the SQL sentence to at least getting it working (although much user information is now gone, it is "just" a matter of each user editing his/her own account, setting the fields and saving)

The links to edituser and userinfo have been removed from the user menu as they require the Profile module to work. We will add some kind of replacement in the Profile module, I think.

In IE when you have a text box or drop down menu under the main admin drop downs the dropdowns are hidden behind the boxes and you can't see the links.

Concerning the speed issue, it's due to 'a bug or configuration issue' in my IE when there is a repeated background. In FF the speed is normal.. Sorry about that...

Concerning the Installed modules, during the installation, I've just forgot to select the access and admin groups...

*the XOOPS Virtual Path (URL) detection is not populated correctly ex: on the installation it's shows /test instead ofhttp://localhost/test
*The table prefix is ramdom 2jKUp for example.. ( can be normal for security issues )

new issue in the usermanagment module
*When uninstalling the module the table 'test_profile_fieldcategory' is not removed and the prevent the reinstallation of the module

In the PM admin section under pruning, could an option be added for selecting certain users and/or groups to NOT have their messages pruned?

I presume that with themeable admin section that we can eliminate banners from showing there? I haven't played with banner ads before....

This is actually intended. Users complained that it was not possible to run both on localhost and an external DNS name. With a relative URL, this is now possible. However, the code for checking whether it is a valid URL has not been updated since I haven't figured out how to perform the check (since it can now be bothhttp://www.example.com/folder and just /folder - and even an empty string)

for security reasons this has been added to harden the system against SQL injection (too many people left the prefix at "xoops")
You still have the option of renaming it to something more descriptive for your use - however, the "xoops" prefix is not recommended.

Not a bad idea... A multi-group selection and a toggle for include/exclude (ONLY/NOT these groups).

The prune is just the first iteration, making sure it worked - the PM module needs more work. For example, the save folder has yet to be implemented... And I did only implement the outbox earlier today (not in the release)

Yes - ... erhm... do they show in the admin section? They shouldn't. Or do you mean that the default themeadmin.html file has <{$xoops_banner}> somewhere? That is just bad copy-pasting for my part and one of those critters, these early releases should get rid of. Thanks for the report.

Boy, that was an interesting bug to locate and fix. It was actually not the editing that caused the problem - it was the user logging in. Bug found and fixed and will be history by next CVS nightly.

I wouldn't count on it - it is still too bastard a hack and too much of a hazard if used incorrectly.

I do have the multi-site hack updated for 2.1.1 and it is mucho easier to apply now. I'm sorry for not updating it to 2.0.10, but it will re-appear for 2.2

I realize it's a bit late in the cycle to be adding features (even minor ones), but would it be possible to add the ability to 'clone' a user group?

This would create a new group with the same permissions and same user base, which could then be modified slightly for a specific purpose. Say changing one or two permissions or excluding/adding one or two users.

This would facilitate setting up new groups or subgroups of existing ones with a minimal amount of work.

the multi-site hack allowed that anyway if you shared the correct tables.. i was testing a lot with it on 2.0.9.2 with 4 seperate sites (all on same server) and login on 1 site logged in on all sites.. is that what u mean LB?

Hey Guys Great Job so far. I notice someone said that they could not register as a new user. I am having the same problem. It says I don't have permission to go in that area. I know there has to be a switch somewhere to turn it on, but I can't find it.

users & session is all thats needed for login sharing :)

the only difference i may have made to mine that u might not have is that i have custom session enabled and that the session name is exactly the same on all 4 sites along with the cookie name (but i don't think the cookie name is relevant to it functioning)

using custom session is vital i think.. as without custom session enabled, XOOPS will use the phpsessionid (i presume) which will of course differ on seperate sites. using custom session switches from using php's sessionid to using the custom name as it's session name.. (that's how i interpret the workings of it anyway)

Default theme...

I found a few errors in default theme..
when trying to validate the theme I found an empty javascript tag that wouldn't validate so I removed it and also the javascript at the bottom of the page outside the body and html tags. (the one that controls the user dropdown menu on the main pages.) I cut and pasted it just below the last closing div tag and everything works properly..

After doing this it validates for xhtml-transitional.

@xpider: Thanks, we'll tweak the default theme so it validates - it is one of the goals of it.

@jonsimmonds:
The navigation layout is 100% theme-controlled. In the admin pages, two arrays ($adminmenu and $systemmenu) are assigned to Smarty and can be used in any way you want.

I have thought about RegKeys and how to make it easy to add to a form. I'm thinking about a new XoopsForm element, similar to the XoopsFormHiddenToken but haven't got very far with it.

You're right,it doesnt validate xhtml when that javascript snippet is placed outside the </html> tag but that is a workaround to make the menu work correctly in Internet Explorer.
So it's important to place it at the end of the page.
If you can test it with IE,please try to move that snippet between the </body> and </html> tags and see whether the menu works fine in IE or the page is validated.
After this check please report here.

This isn't the final version so graphics don't look so good yet.
As Mith said before the theme is 90% of screen resolution wide so images will be re-designed to fit this setting.

updated to the latest cvs from today, great stuff, but things i recognized:

1. if i want to update site preferences, the settings are deleted in DB and not taken, although the message since this cvs tells me, its ok and updated

2. in some modules, forms / setting updates are the same, not updated and cleared (pdDownloads e.g.)

3. i had some custom blocks with XOOPS variables (global $xoopsdb sql= and so on)
it seems, they dont show anymore in the block?

4. html code doesnt work the right way, i have to select php code for custom blocks and start with a ?> and ends up with a <? ?

and sorry for my english.

I have a suggestion for the upcoming release of the xoops. Can the page displaying "If the page does not automatically reload, please click here
" be removed or replaced by adding a short sentence about the situation in the existing automatically reloaded page?
This highly increases the efficiency of browsing the XOOPS site.

I know this might sound supid, but I can't delete a user or I should say where do you delete a user. Also when a new user will log on as new, when he uses his ID Name and password, it says it wrong and I know its right. I don't unerstand why its happening. As I wrote some mesages ago - it was error in registration process (fixed in nightlies now)... Password was wriiten in rable in unencoded form instead of hash.
You have:
- see into table for such passwords
- edit (as admin) account and enter same password
- on account's update hash will be written and user'll be able to login

Good work with the themeable admin area, but the new distribution in admin panel i think sincerely was much better before,

I think its much more fastest the left menu bar with the modules icons,
Now you have to surf along all the javascript menus to reach the wishes point.

I don't know if is very hard to make, but maybe a good idea can be keep both styles, (the admin panel would has a config option to see as "javascript menus or left icons menus" )

Ok... i seem to be having lots of problems. Can't even register people. I mean... people register, an activation link gets sent to them, then there isn;t any sign of the user. When you try and login is says incorrect and when you go "retrieve password" it says no such account. However, when you go to re-activate the account it says "already activated" which means it recognises it.

Is this just me? Plus also... where is this nightly CVS that people are going on about?

Had a look at the demo site.

The extended user fields is absolutely fantastic.

I wonder, is it possible to require that the useriD be the email address. In my opinion of all the sites that I regularly register with, and then go back to visit 3 or 4 or 6 months later, I always remember my email address if it's the username. Otherwise, on some sites that don't use the email address as username, I have to utilize the "I forgot my username" functionality...if they have it.

Also, I tried to create a category in the extended profiles section, but was not able to. Is this functionality working yet?

I would like to be able to create two types of users. 1. end user, and 2. content provider. The reason is that I'm collecting more information from the content providers than the endusers, and giving the contentproviders more access...but yet the contentproviders won't be XOOPS admins or moderators.

Another off topic question:
Is XOOPS Peak, or XOOPS Protector module still required for XOOPS 2.0.9, 2.0.10, and the 2.1.X versions? or has this been built into the core?

Just summing up the bugs found and fixed since this release:

1) User registration date (and all other dynamic fields, really) are wiped out on user login

2)
Failed writing constant 0.
Failed writing constant 1.
During installation

3) Password given during registration is not encrypted before being saved in the database

4) profile_fieldcategory table in Profile module is not removed on Profile module uninstallation

5) Webmaster group is not given admin rights to Profile module on system update

6) When installing a module that hasn't got any admin, but got preferences it also gets listed in the "Module" menu

For the nightly - modify the extension from .tar to .tgz and uncompress using Winrar or such tool.

Windows likes messing up the extension for tar files.

Found a small bug. Under blocks administration, when I add block to be visible to a certain group, it was ok. But then when I tried to change to a different group/multiple groups [under 'visible in'], it will always include the first group that I set to [when adding block], in addition to new groups. If I used the 'edit' link, the problem does not occur.

[I used CVS nightly, just downloaded it a few minutes ago.]

still can't edit any config values, including pregerences, user info etc,,

it says db is updated but it isn't and it resets to default and erases text fields.

I have the same error that Sabotage in debug, and does not finish there, but that I cannot be log in when following the update passages. At the time of the loggin I do it normally, gives the welcome message me, but when I put in direction to admin area informs that I do not have access.

It is very probable that the problem already this contemplating but as my english is not fluid I could not find it.

Then my site in localhost is not functional.

It is a way to go - which is possible with the admin theme in XOOPS 2.2

The default theme will be a bit different, but there is nothing stoppin anyone from making an admin theme that looks like adminarea revisited.

Did anyone have the same problems?

1. switched off the old website for all users using the flag in the preferences
2. unfortunately forgot to switch on debug mode
3. uploaded the patch files from 2.0.10 to 2.1.1
4. called the Xoops2010-210.php upgrade file and got the error messages described in the Upgrade Guide
5. tried to call www.mysite.com/user.php and got the error message that the module couldn't be found
6. the news page appeared without any navigation menu (all left blocks were missing)
7. tried to call admin.php directly but didn't work either.

Anybody have an idea what went wrong? I was using 2.0.10 prior to the upgrade and uploaded only the 2.0.10to2.1.1 patch files

Since the system module was not upgraded yet, the easiest fix would be to upload the 2.0.10 files again to get the site working. Remember 2.1.1 is a developer (beta) build and may contain bugs, or if using the nightly build may not always work. I have been running it on my test site for a while now, seems to run well. I was not saying not to use it. I was saying re upload the 2.0.10 files to recover your site. Then once things are working normal again. Retry the upgrade. Just mentioned it is not yet meant for a production site.

I noticed when using the x2t theme for admin area the system menu won't expand rather when clicked it expands, or contracts the menu for extended profiles.

As part of the roadmap and future updates, can you incorporate a system that gives webmasters more flexibility in controlling where and how modules are displayed. Meaning, instead of running "true multi-sites" it would be great if we had the ability to display blocks, modules, and themes at the topic and category level.

Another minor complaint -

You are sending a mixed message by saying don't use this in a production environment but then including patch files. In the past, you didn't include patch files as part of beta releases. But since you did include the patch/upgrade files, why wasn't simple upgrade instructions included? I looked and didn't see any.

To upgrade are we supposed to simply copy the files over and then use system update or is there another process involved?

We included patch files because we would like people to try it out and because earlier versions usually had that request for upgrade files.

Oh, ok. and I thought the update.html doc was a bit confusing, in terms of

this line -

"Run pre-upgrade script
After uploading all files in the patch archive, access www.example.com/Xoops2010-210.php, replacing www.example.com with your site's URL. This will show error messages and no real content, but don't worry, just proceed to next step"

this could be a lot clearer.

What is a patch archive? I mean are we supposed to just load this one php file and run this first, or are we supposed to overwrite all the files with the current patch files and then run this to see what the error messages are? Or are we supposed to create a separate directory, load the entire upgrade file in there, then run this pre-upgrade script? Which if this is the case what would this pre-upgrade script accomplish, since it's not running from the actual installation directory?

The rest of the instructions are straight forward, but this "pre-upgrade" thing needs clarification. I was going to install it and test it, but I'm just going to wait until the final version is done.

The patch archive is the archive with the patch files, i.e. the .zip or .tar.gz file you downloaded.

Upload all the files keeping the folder structure, overwriting the existing files, then go to www.example.com/Xoops2010-210.php where you will get some error messages and/or an otherwise blank screen after which you should proceed to the next step.

I'm very open for suggestions for better wording.

I have been trying to get weblog to work with 2.1.1 and keep getting this error when trying to administrate the module:

Great work! I loved the custom profiles, but I noticed that if I choose select as a field type, the value selected is not stored. Instead value "array" is stored in user_profile table.

BTW, can this be altered a little bit so that options in select fields can be added in a label-value form? And could I use a php script to add more options automaticaly by just altering field_options in the user_profile_fields table, or it is more complicated? Thanks in advance

Will you include a member list/search option as in the xoopsmembers module of v2.0.x? It would also be great to have an option between a list and the search module as I for example dont need the search form.
And would it be possible to edit all user profile fields? At the moment I can't edit the real name field (I would rather like two fields: christian and surname. I can add them but not delete the real name field.

list/search should be expected as parts of the Profile module.

Some fields, you will not be able to edit the properties of (uname, name, email, pass, rank, level, user avatar) since the system relies on them. Try following Herko's suggestion.

First off, I am new to XOOPS. I have been using several other CMS/Portal systems in the past and I am excited about the potential in xoops.

However something very important to me is the ability to have a customized user profile. Not all sites need the same information (and some specialized sites - like mine -- which is a portal for Alumni for schools) I am going to be adding several field values. One of which is the year they graduated. For this I was going to use the "select" field type however the database structure is not very accomodating for very many options (i.e. listing 1900-2005). The field_options value is max at 255 characters. I know this is easily changed to a text or even long text via mysql.. just a suggestion for the developers to keep in mind for the final release.

Anyway, when I use the select field_type, and then go to Edit my Profile (as a regular user) the field doesn't appear (nor was my value stored as viewed in my profile during account registration). I am using CVS checkouted 6/17/05

the database structure is not very accomodating for very many options (i.e. listing 1900-2005)

That is true. I'll be looking into a generic select that will be able to perform lookups for lists as well as I might add a "longdate" field that is not using a UNIX timestamp and a "year" field that just selects a year.
