Got a little distracted this week and as a little side project I have created a smarty insert plugin that displays the page execution time, and MySQL queries generated to render each page. The advantage of using the insert method is that the insert function code is always executed each time it is invoked, and isn't cached in the template along with all the other output data. This meaning that the page timer and MySQL counter figures are always going to be current and relevant to the page being displayed, regardless of if block and/or module cache is active.

Best yet is that no system files need to be modified, and you can have this plugin up and running in just a few minutes. Installation instructions are below;

No worries menochi, I'm glad you liked it . I should point out that I've only tested this plugin with XOOPS 2.0.7.3 and 2.0.9 beta. It should work with earlier versions, but don't hold me to it.

Great little hack brash.

I'm really curious as to why this type of thing was never included in the default XOOPS install. Many CMSs have similar functionality.

I don't know, why I didn't suggest this - probably due to my aversion towards <{php}> tags - but the same can be accomplished with inserting this in theme.html:

echo round(($GLOBALS['xoopsLogger']->dumpTime()), 3)." Seconds | ".count($GLOBALS['xoopsLogger']->queries)." Queries";

Since the theme.html is never cached, module or block caching will not interfere.

Indeed you are right Mith, that will work too. Either way is good . Your idea does give me another idea though. A few people asked me if my insert plugin would work in the Admin area, which it won't as the admin area doesn't use smarty. However, a modified version of your code will. Here's what to do;

1) Backup include/cp_functions.php

2) Find lines 152 & 153 in include/cp_functions which look like this;

What is the highest acceptable number of queries and seconds used for a small site??

There is no one size fits all answer, you can have as little or as many as you like depending on how much importance you place on site performance. The most important thing to watch is the execution time as this is what is going to effect content delivery to your users the most. Personally I would be looking to optmise my site if I had page execution times over 1 second, but again this depends on how many users you have online at any one time, and what your site is doing. The MySQL query counter is not as important as different environments will be able to process varying amount of queries in the same amount of time. I'd still be looking to keep this under 100 if you can though.

I used the inser.showstat hack on my site when I was running 2.0.13 and it worked great. Now, with 2.2.1, it no longer works. I tried the code Mithrandir mentioned, but it does not work correctly now either.

Mith's code will display the correct execution time, but the SQL queries only show 3. I turned on MySQL debug to verify this. For instance, on my homepage, there are 64 database queries, but the script only shows 3.

What alterations to the script do I need to make to get it to display the correct MySQL query count?

Also, are their any plans of updating the insert.showstat hack for 2.2.x?

does not seem to work with XOOPS 2.0.14. the time may be correct but the number of queries is always 3 (using mith code for 2.2.x) or 1 (using the code for 2.0.x)

Hi all,

On version 2.0.15, it's seems that the code and the values taken are done while the XOOPS kernel is still processing some queries,

The result is always 3 queries, the time value seems to be good

Is there any fixes yet?

A small up,

But by looking deeper in the code, it"s seems that the stats structure is only provisionned when the core is in debug mode ( Certainly for speed issues ) So I guess there are no solutions..
