Modules: Classified Ad system in the works

xClassifieds is a new module under development which has a new interface for both Administrators and users and offers more control of your ads.

xClassifieds can be located on the
XOOPS Module Development Site

Currently it's just a hacked up copy of myAds with a bunch of new features but the future holds promise of:

-More admin configurability
-Better user and admin interface
-Archived ads instead of deleted ads for easier reactivation by users and admins
-Multiple photo attachments
-More category control for admin (allow posts, disallow posts, certain groups can post, etc)
-Classified Broadcasting System as used on my site's version of this module.

Not abandoned, the project has just been started. In fact it is more like taking a stale project (MyAds) and bringing it back. If you go to the devel site you'll see the start of this project. The idea is to get developers interested and help out.

I think an ads module will be very useful. MyAds is a good base since it can be made to fit well in a community site. An e-commerce module would be something different, this one fits well in a local site like clubs etc.

I'm using Noah Classifieds on my sites. Not because I love'em.

We really need a good XOOPS classified ads mod.

It would be great, if we had the ability to charge a small fee for ads, just to keep the junk off the sites. I had to close the classifieds on a couple sites. People were putting up some of the worst trash imaginable, i.e., used doggie blankets, broken things, etc.

It wouldn't have to be a full scale https/ssl certificate thing if Paypal was linked in some way. I wouldn't have a problem saying..."It's paypal or nothing".

It would be great if we have the ability to control words amount, pic width and heigth and a preview, too.

Hmm yes, I could see adding a word list to filter ads with. If "XXXXX" exists in the ad, put it in a pending que for admin approval or something?

To place an ad, you first need to be sure you have set up the module and the preferences. Then go into any category where ads are allowed and click on the link to place the ad. - only the english language file exists btw.

Chadk that could be perfect too.
It could be to replace 1 bad word by only character too (For example, "poo" by "yyy" or by 1 word as "beeeep").

But I refered it to the quantity of characters whitin ad text. For example max 400 characters.

I´m sorry for my english.
I can´t help you because I don´t know php, only could do it with spanish translation.

same here... it looks like a bug though, not a mistake, because there's a weird forward-slash at the end of my document that shouldn't be there, and nothing at all after that.

I was originaly excited about a classifieds module. Between this one and others out there there was hope.

After a lot of tweaking and hacking I made classifieds do what I wanted and was happy. However I discovered that most users are so set on everything being in the forums that they didn't use classifieds to advantage. Even when I hacked further to make the two modules work together they still prefered old fashioned forum posts.

I finally relented and with newbb2 I created a classifieds category and the users are much happier. Newbb2 gave me enough features to make the users happy while not causing me too much admin headaches.

I still prefer a classifieds module but many users don't.
