Update from Newbb 1.0 worked good. Except one smaller problem: when editing a category description which contains a smiley a misleading link is placed in the description instead of the smiley.

Fantastic work Predator and everyone else. I've been using Beta4 since it came out and love it. One minor issue though:

The updater from Beta4 to RC1 seems to be broken. It cannot add fields to certain tables in step 2 and can't drop tables in Step 3. The text on step 1 is also wrong:

This file will update your current Newbb Pro 1.03 to the new Newbb 2.0 Version.

I tried the newbbpro updater to see if they were switched but no luck.

Congratulations Predator and all the team of contributors. This is a superb advancement on the forum module. Not just a 'face-lift' a complete re-write takes this forum into the BIG league. The feature list is amazing and compares with top forum software, both O/S and commercial. We've waited long and hard for this, but behind the scenes dedicated skilled xoopsers were building something special and something to make us all proud of. A credit to you all

BTW, If you make your ordinary registered users group moderated, then created another group called 'trusted users' you can move individual registered users from registered to trusted. This gives a true individual user moderation feature!

This Forum is packed with goodies... going to take the CMS world by storm!!

I've been silently tracking your work and i am soo happy that it's in it's pre-final stages, ready for the real world implementation.

I sure would like to get into the admin side and work with it some. I've got a several IPB boards that don't bear the traffic for licensing.

Maybe a demo site and permissions to see how it works inside or something.

I know I can just DL and work with it, but I don't have server space now...maybe next week.

Congratulations on your accomplishment, we've really needed a full featured XOOPS boards for a long time.

Couple of things:

We need to be able to have a Horizontal menu under header bar. Prefer drop-down, but simple line with small gif is fine. This way we do not need left or right column menus.

I prefer to have forums take the whole page to make the page less cluttered. IF I have horz menu at top then I can access all features of my site.

I like the standard header bar across the top, and the provision for a logo in left side and banner in center.

I installed the new forum succesfully but i'm in trouble now.

Look here and you'll probably know what i'm talking about.

The forums don't display! And it seems that there are no images also..

I am setting the permissions, but none of the forums that i set permissions to display don't display..

I hope for a quick response.

Can't a cross browser post editor be written into this using htmlarea or something? That would be excellent. Using a WYSIWYG editor would greatly increase the amount of posts and look of the post.

A cross browser wysiwyg class ( Editor ) is still in work from samuels but have some problems to work proper with the newbb, so if this fixed the Editor can be added, I`m also waiting on this...

WYSIWYG editor would be great, but only if it'll work in ALL browsers. Otherwise i would not be very interested since the already existing posting environment seems very nice.

But indeed, it may be a good thing for web newbies to add posts like they write in their M$ Word or something.

Anyways..

When would XOOPS.org be running NEWBB 2?? It'll be very cool to have it here. And since newbb is XOOPS official module it's reasonable that XOOPS.org should implement it, of course..

Hi Predator and all the newbb team...

I actively followed the development and would love to provide some feedback.

Firstly -- WELL DONE!

Okay... I went from newbb 1 -> newbb 2 beta 2 -> ipb (from bbpixel.com).

I'm now wishing to see many of the features from ipboard in the final of newbb.

The one show-stopper for me is the following:

When clicking in a forum... a list of threads appears.

I would like the ability for my users to be able to click on the date of the last post and be taken directly to the last post in that thread.

I imagine this could be accomplished by placing a HNAME at the start of each posting that contains the postid?
It would then only need to be reflected in the list of topics.

Please consider the request... as this is the biggest complaint I hear from my users
(I don't have many threads, but hundreds of replies!)

Without this... I'm stranded in deciding what forum to use that is integrated into Xoops.. I really don't want to run forum software NOT integrated. :(

Does anyone else require this functionality? It seems a relatively small feature, but one that improves the user experience 10 fold!

You mean like it is in the Blocks click the POsticon and you go straight to the last Post even if it`s on Page 5 or 6...

This is not a big act to do allready in the Blocks added.

But remeber most Forums start with a small feature list, and the newbb 2.0 is just a start Version which will be have more feature in the further development, some Boards need more Time to have this small feature list, but we are faster in expanding this as the other Boards and at least for free

So this Version here is only a step in the right direction, it is not the end our ToDo list is very long....

Easy now - it has been released in a RC today, not a full version. Surely we are not applying non-final modules on such an important site as xoops.org for obvious reasons. Patience is a virtue.

I think he also means from the forum view, with all the threads visible - phpBB and IPB both have small images linking to the last/last unread post.

I usually set my forums to display flat and newest first, so I just click on topics and get the latest posts, but not everyone likes it that way.

Yes, I've just looked back at the blocks on your beta site... and yeah exactly like the blocks!

Problem is that I don't run any blocks on the site in question... Thus they are of no use...

Predator... take a look at the site (sorry it's running ipb at present!) but you'll see why...

Take a look athttp://www.swiftel-users.com/
I find the use of blocks in the 'main content' area daunting for new users.. and distracts them from the content (so many don't scroll down!).
Thus why we don't implement them... particularly on this site.. as we have many newbies...

I'm willing to do the work and submit a patch if need be... it's that big a problem for me!

I've got probably a small problem, but still important..

My titlebar background seems to be missing. I only have background for those pop menus, but al else is just white. Why?

And how do i change colors and looks, is there a CSS somewhere, i haven't found any in newbb folder. Maybe a templates?

Oh, and by the way, does anyone makes solelly a newbb themes which you can install just to change the look of the forums, not the whole site?

Have a look in /include/newbb.css. Might also be worth testing with other themes.

And now for Brash's tip of the day:

If you are upgrading and are using custom templates, remember you'll need to update them as well as the forum module. Been using XOOPS for 18 months and that one still gets me nearly everytime

Last night, setting up and seeing the new forum, was like driving home a new car - discovering it's pluses and minuses (nary a one) but overall just as happy as can be with that shiny new - uhh, forum.

I like the new permission sytem, the design, the feature set (despite some of the comments). Truth is, most of my visitors are confused by bells and whistles.

Okay, after hours of trying to change one simple stupid color on my own i still simply can't get it.

I tried multiple things with this CSS, tried adding li.level1 class with { background-color:#4070A0; }, but nothing works.

I have a soo simply questions which must have a simple answer, but i'm obviously blind or something as i can't find it.

I want to change a color of the titlebars of newbb2 forum from this white (or transparent, whatever it is) to my color of choice..

As it currently looks like is not good, i only have drop down menus and everything else is white which looks crappy. Look here to see what i mean.

The forum is soo great, but this little thing is starting to annoy me big time, so much trouble over one "stupid" color.

I see it as the admin but when logged in as a user I don't see it. I checked to make sure I gave them rights in the forums settings and everything looked ok.

The text shows that they have rights too

You can start new topics.
You can view topics.
You can reply to posts.
You can edit your posts.
You can delete your posts.
You can add new polls.
You can vote in polls.
You can attach files to posts.
You can post without approval.

Excelent forum loads of features

I have took it off my site now tho as it is very slow to load at present

Could do with simplifying in places and the problem with my theme related to list's they show up as dark blue at present

Yet keep up the good work

I am going to wait untill it has been thru more testing and been made more user freindly

Then stick it on my site as most people strugle with even the most simple forum

I have to say, comparred to phpbb, ipb and Vbulletin, newbb is the easiest of all of them and Ive tried them all. because it integrates XOOPS features like polls, permissions and groups it uses familiar ideas that we are all already used to.

Im currently prparing a help file similar to SmartFAQ However these files take some time to produce AND newbb2 will be refined and changed in the near future.

Umm.... I am having a bit of a problem with getting the forums the way that everyone else's is looking. Am I missing something when I update? I overwrote the files as suggested, ran the upgrade script and when I go to the forum it is all screwed up. The categories display, but none of the forums display. Do I have to upgrade to newbb pro first then upgrade to newbb 2.0? It seems like its missing quite a bit of stuff. I even went to the extent of completely deleting the newbb folder, copying a newbb folder from another clean install of XOOPS on my server to my install, but to no avail. Its almost like a templating issue. Anyway, you can see what I am talking about here.

Hi talunceford,

did you try to update the Newbb in the Module Admin? Only copy and run update script is not enough, you also need to update the module themself in the Moduleadmin.

I figured out what it was.... make sure that the templates_c is writeable.... LOL!!!! it wasn't updating the templates. See I switched from a windows box to a unix box and some things i am still finding out the hard way. THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!! I really really appreciate it!! It works perfectly now!!

Thanks bud! You guys really out-did yourself with this one! Seriously.

As far as xpphl goes, I haven't touched a line of code in it for quite some time. I really need to do some things to it. For some reason I can't get the damn hits to display on my site. Any clue to this anyone? It might be as simple as a permissions issue, but who knows. What I think I would like to do with the xpphl is make it so that it doesn't have an actual front end like the site does, but make it so that you access the stats from the admin side only. I think I will try and use the navigation system that is being used in the forums and what not. Where can I find the docs on the nav system? Anyway, I have a couple more things that I need to accomplish with the XOOPS Teamspeak module first. It seems to work like a champ. Anyway, DEVS, XOOPS USERS, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Currently the Moderator CP is not finished, this comes with the next Version, which will come soon.

Thank you Predator. I succeeded in changing that titlebar colors..

However, there's one more thing (hopefully one), i would like to change the color of the bottom bar. Where do i do that?

And how do i best custumize the appereance of the forums. Those three upper bars are now looking like one big. I'd like to divide them with borders and maybe change colors of every of them..

What are the key locations in CSS files to change appereances of the forums.

Well done on the new release! I have been waiting to see this module before I jumped fully into the XOOPS world.

The basic functionality of the the newbb2 forums works really well for me.. It's great. But I seem to have a problem - none of the forum graphics show up in Internet Explorer. They appear fine in Firefox though. I've tried different themes, including the default theme.. but no luck..

Can anybody help with this?

i was testing newbb_2.0Beta3 and then tried 2.0 RC1. the dropdown menus worked great in beta3, but in rc1 i do not like the way they display and in some cases there is overlap. any ideas?

Due to the overlapping this is fixed and in the CVS, but for you to change it now:

in the newbb.css


ul.level1 {z-index:1} li.folder:hover ul.level2, 

        ul.level2 li.folder:hover ul.level3 {

            display:block;

so as you see just replace ul.level1 with ul.level1 {z-index:1}

and the overlapping stops see also on the testsite.

Your patch is ok and works...

To have an extra logic :

belongs to anonymous user, if there is no check every anonymus user can edit or delete other anonymous posts, so there is a extra check about the IP, works for this anonymous only that time he hasn`t changed the IP and now only for his anonymous posts, he can`t edit or delete other anonymous posts.

Thank you Predator for this hack for preventing overlapping, but it doesn't work for me.. It still overlaps.

And also, i wanted to know where do i edit the color of the bottom bar, where those reply, edit, delete and quote buttons.

Generally, what are the important places when it comes to editing the looks of the newbb2?

Predator I tried what you said for the edit and delete button but it still doesn't work. :( Also the lines here are 441 and 662 so maybe i am missing a line?)

I ve made a try altering the code and it seems to work now. But the edit button shows up for every message even the ones that are not mine. Fortunately it does allow to edit only mine ones.

I found the problem in the updater from Beta4 to RC1 and it was very simple.

Edit the newbb2beta4_to_newbb2.php file
Find line with the FORM statement (Line 53)
Change to:

the color changes on the bottom bar depence on your theme css ( style.css )

Bottom = foot class
Top = class head

means at least the look of the newbb comes from the theme css the newbb.css is most only for the popup menu...

many style.css define the ul and li elements, so defining them in the newbb.css will cause a conflict and in my opinion this should be avoided. i believe the newbb.css needs further work.

There are 2 image set(except default) in beta version.

But, file names are different with rc1. so I can't use it.

I want to get a image set. How can I?

Predator I think you are disconsidering that some people have dinamic IP so they will not be able to edit their post if they disconnect and connect again. So if i use your code I do see my edit button if I stay connected but if I do disconnect and connect again I can´t edit my post.

The problem that people have described about the update resulting in a display of the main categories, but not the actual forums....everyone has said that you need to

a) run the script to update
b) Updated in System Admin\Modules
c) Update the template set.

I had done steps a) and b), but not c). I'm not sure how to update the template set. I know how to clone the original set, and have cloned my XOOPS default templates before. But how do I actually update them? Do I just re-clone the original XOOPS set, or do I clone my cloned set again? Never quite got to grips with this concept but I'd really like to use NewBB2!

i found some bugs with page jump in recents topics blocks. with u reach 2 pages... when click [2]. the page not found.. it's because the url will be like thishttp://yourdomain/modules/news/modules/newbb/... i use news as my starting page... so to solve this... i change the code in newbb/blocks/newbb_new.php

This new module is great and I'd like to use it, but now I have IPB module by koudanshi, which I'd like to remove, because it's messes too much with XOOPS core. But I don't want to lost all my forums, so I have a question, which is imprtant to me: will there be any possibility (some script or something) to convert all posts and forums from IPB module to newBB 2.0?

Planings are to have at least 2 Converter, for the IBF Module and for the phpBB2 Module, maybe later on more are coming...

Print Topic?

I wonder, is it just me. I really don't need a print topic as much as I need a print posting. By that I mean printing the precise posting the user is clicked into.

Also, it would be nice if the same print format was used as in Articles, XF-Sections, SmartFAQ mods, etc.

Grat job on the new module! I love it. However, I've been having a problem with cookies. When my users "Mark all read" on all of the forums, they end up getting a cookie error. I posted the error in this forum discussion

Really nice. Thanks to all involved.

Three issues I notice after using a short time.

1. Forum is much slower. Thought it was just my site but I notice it is slower here as well.
2. When you click a post in the "recent topic" block it goes to the thread and not the most recent post. Please, fix this.
3. How do you get the post numbering to work as you have it here at xooops.org. Am I overlooking this option in the admin section?

1. The way the Display is build is different now, but has more effect on the browser, than i thought, using Firefox the Forum is quite fast, IE builds first the whole Thread and after the IE is finished it will be displayed.

2. When you click on the Topic Title it goes to the Thread. If you click on the Posticon it goes to the last Post, nothing to fix is a feature.

3. They are available in the RC2

Sorry.. seems like I'm too dumb, but I cannot find the (unfinished) german language files on dev.xoops.org.
