Hi all,

I have released phpmyadmin 2.6.0 rc2 for xoops. I have tested this version on the latest xoops core and it works perfect. Hopefully, it works on older versions also. This is a release candidate and the final versiond of 2.6.0 doesnt look like its out.

Feel free to use this. :)

I looked at the screenshot and I don't see how phpMyAdmin is integrated into Xoops?

What is XOOPS specific in it?

It would be nice if the relation views for all XOOPS core tables would be created in phpMyAdmin with the possibility to add entries for each module.

I haven't looked at this module but have always felt that in our case the stand alone phpmyadmin is preferred over an integrated module. And better than an ISP provided interface.

You are dependant on a working XOOPS and if you're needing to fix a broken db you might be out of luck.

Usually only one person needs access anyway.

If you use the XOOPS mainfile.php configured db name/password you get a look at exactly the same database(s) and rights as the XOOPS system uses. You have to create (optionaly) any relational views between tables though. Relations aren't stored in the db but created on the fly by the query. I've seen views configured in Access but that is still smoke and mirrors. It might be nice but it could be difficult since the relations aren't static nessesarily but can change as needed.

Maybe possible to create the relations and then share the config with the community. They are stored in a seperate table(s) and could be shared. But it is still not a direct relational config but only a visual and helpful option.

edit->I never configure phpmyadmin with the db user/password but force a login to be safer.

I tried the previous version of this module for about a month. One day, I was looking at my traffic stats and noticed that modules/phpmyadmin/admin/db_details_structure.php had recieved 11 hits on a certain day. I never accessed that module once that particular day. I backtraced my logs and found that there had been numerous occasions when the module had been accessed by someone other than myself. Needless to say, I immediately uninstalled the module. Just to clearify, file and folder level permissions are chmod 544 & 555 [about as strict as you can go and stay useable] on everything that doesn't need to be 444, 755, or 777. The only folders chmod to 777 are cache and templates_c.

IMHO, this module poses a potential security risk in the hands of an inexperienced user. If your host doesn't supply phpMyAdmin, install it your self in a password protected directory that has a name thats 10-20 characters long [ex: /IcGdEEbztNy5uaovsVeR/ ]. Install phpMyAdmin in this cryptic directory , login, then bookmark the page. It takes about 10 minutes and it's a LOT more secure.

Yeh about that, Im gonna create a password protected form which you will have to type in your password (any 1 you choose) to access it.

No 1 else will be able to view it !

You never asked to me about the module or nothing similar! i'm waiting for the version final of´phpmyadmin 2.6 for release the new version .... why you release a version with me logo., ripping me credits and with a simple THNX into the news ?

I don't see any reason why one would have phpmyadmin as a xoops module. You better use the stand alone version ( http://www.phpmyadmin.net ) as it is up to date. Why compromise your websites most essential tool by using it as a xoops module?
