Hi guys,

I've been playing around with a site on my own test server and it's been working fine, so I went ahead and uploaded it to my web hosting and now users won't stay logged in. You log in, it says 'Thank you for logging in' and redirects you back to the previous page, where the login box is there again. The only time it will briefly stay logged in is if you're on the main page, where you can see the user menu for one page before you click onto something else. It's the same for all users.

It may be related or might not be, but nothing seems to be being written to the cache folders (templates_c, cache etc) despite them being writable.

I'm beating my head against a wall with this one, anybody got any ideas? I've upgraded from 2.0.18 to 2.4.1 and it made no difference. Running on Apache with PHP 5.2.11 and MySQL 5.0.85.

My first step would be to go to phpMyAdmin and repair _session table.

Nope, didn't work I'm afraid, same thing - login seems fine but logs out as soon as you leave the home page.

Make sure xoops_data and sub folders have write permissions.

Yup, were already that way from the upgrade (which I'm amazed worked). Still not working. Cheers for trying to track this one down Trabis :)

Go to system preferences and change:

Name for user cookies: xoops_user
Session name: xoops_session

to something else.

Maybe a cookie problem,
If the above does not work then delete your browser cookies.

It is not the with and without www in the URL case?
Do you have PHP 5?
Are special operations needed by the site to have sessions, eg creating files or directories (see hosters documentation)?

Nope, and had to change the names in PHPMyAdmin since I can't stay logged in long enough to change the preferences :) Browser cookies cleared also and still no joy. The mystery deepens...

So this is happening before the upgrade, just after you upload your changes correct?
What changes have you done?
Do you have any .htaccess in your root? If so, try to remove it.

No changes other than uploading it to a new server/domain, editing mainfile.php to reflect new database and paths and sifting through the files/database to find any references to my old domain. I upgraded to see if it would make any difference to this problem.

I'd already renamed my .htaccess to .htaccess.old, even removing it completely doesn't seem to help. Still logging out. It does seem that I can look at anything on the user menu without it logging out though, if that helps your diagnosis at all.
