Recommended starting modules - admin /security etc

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=66379&forum=27 are some modules for, what I suppose is a cms-experienced XOOPS beginner.

Are there admin or security modules that is good or recommended to install from start, also for beginners?

Fireflies (link above) talk about these modules:
pm, profile, protector, system, thadmin and index.html
...in that thread also X-center is mentioned.

1) Are those a good set?

Protector was easy to find, but the others was harder. "Profile" is that the SmartProfile module?

2) Thadmin I found a v1.1
3) System, is that the Frameworks 1.35?
4) What is the PM module?
5) Whats is index.html (in mentioned thread)?

Hi' MrGrey

My advise is to install what Your need and nothing more.

Protector is a must. And a backupmodule is recommended.

2) I don't thing Your need Thadmin in the beginning.
3) System is the core module - can not be uninstalled
Frameworks is included in XOOPS 2.3.1. It's not a module but offers functions for modules.
4) PM is for personale messages between users. If You don't have users ore You site is one-way communication, you don't need that module
5) Index.html is a file placed in all folders.
Try to change the URL inhttps://xoops.org/modules/newbb/
tohttps://xoops.org/modules/newbb/language/english/
You can't and are getting send back to the page your came form. Thats a for preventing directory traversing.

But that leave You with nothing....

What should Your website do? Witch funcktions do You need?

(Anyone know where the teach yourselv XOOPS in 21 days are? - I can't remember where i read it)

10) Is there any type of admin or other general modules (not mentioned by Skenow) that must, or definitely benefit from being installed from site start? Decisions that is smart to make on a general basis from start?

11) Is editors included in 2.3.1 ?

Some authors use to say that U should not talk about future plans First things first...and getting a system platform up is that first step.

Groups of visitors is important to take care of in the beginning. If You, after installing modules, decides to implement a new group, you have to go trough all modules permissions in those modules that offers that.

Yes editors is included in 2.3.1.
If you need to change default editor, don't search inhere - thats old stuff

Edit the file /xoops_data/configs/xoopsconfig.php

Hmmm, is it different groupings of authorization levels U are thinking about?

What happens, in a simple case where U start with a blog and then add a ezine module?

Is there any need for extra modules to expand the system on authorization levels?

I don't know the ezine module, but take the News module.

Last Year XOOPS created the "WOX Newsletter"
The first 3 ore 4 times I get RSS-feed about a new topic, but I could not read it, because Mamba forgot something (sorry Mamba )

In the News module You have permissions for
Approve
Submit
View

Let's say You have 10 topics and the default 3 groups (webmaster, registred, anonymous)
Now Your creating a new group

The group needs access for the News section - that makes 30 decisions to make.

The Newbb has 11 permissions.
Let's say You have 25 topics
That give You 275 decisions to make.

It is much easier to take the decisions when You install a module/create the new topic/category and so on, than it is to set permissions afterwards.

You can do it afterwards, but it increases the change for errors (like the WOX Newsletter.)

PM was a hard one. Can't find it under P in the module repository and search does not allow 2 letter search.

Can someone tell where PM-module is?

It comes bundled with the 2.3.x download in the modules folder. However, it isn't installed by default - you have to do that yourself.

At the moment I wouldn't install it as there's a bug which means that posts aren't being deleted using the checkboxes in the Inbox.

The XOOPS core comes with a basic Inbox anyway, so the strictly speaking the PM module isn't absolutely essential.
