All of the following was provided to our host over the course of couple of weeks, they are now telling us this is something in XOOPS script...If anyone can take the time to review the following and perhaps give me some advise I would appreciate it....the messages where you see "jim" are me...the other are from techs...Hope all the following help anyone reading see the problems we are having...
Hi,
We are encountering a strange problem this morning...up until today, all was fine. However, when we attempt to enter the nolimitxoops directory via our site, or what we call the administration page to administer this part of our site...we get the following
This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed.
Also, directly prior to getting this message, we attempt to upload blocks for our site, and were getting failed to execute block id (given number)
Any idea why all the sudden this problem is occuring? I do not feel this is something that has anything to do with XOOPS program...we have used it for years and never had this happen...
Thus, any suggestions would be appreciated as to why we are getting this message
This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed.
And then, when we click "cancel" or "submit" it spins us right back to same page...
Thanks
Jim

Well, I clicked on Administration Menu and get a message:
This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed.
I clicked "Submit" abd successfully entered XOOPS administration area at
http://nolimitsite.com/nolimitxoops/admin.phpBut the next time I was forwarded into this area without any messages.
Looks like you have a problem with your browser. Please, clear your cache and cookies or try to use another browser.

Well, I used IE and did get past the page I was speaking of...now it will not let me upload any new blocks...never had this problem either...I try to upload a block and get message
FAILED TO UPDATE BLOCK (and gives me ID number to block
i.e. Failed to Update block 31
Never had this issue either...but Did get past to administration...however, t his is exactly what happened with FF as well...eventually, if I try enough to get block loaded it will get me back to square one above...
So any new thoughts on what is causing this? I am asking because we have used XOOPS program successfully with five other hosts over the years and never encountered this...leading me to believe something has gone haywire somewhere within server...that is simply a guess...
Let me know...cause truthfully, it will take so soo very long to reinstall program, read our members, etc

As far as I can judge from the Error log the mod_security is to blame. I've disabled it for nolimitxoops folder. Please, try again now.

I have no clue...the entire site is acting up now...
First, no that did not work on the mod_security
Second...we are unable to install anything as we were up until today...
And, finally, it is sending us back to the very first ticket above where we mentioned it want let us into administration site...
Whew...be calm Jim be calm :)
Any further suggestions would be appreciated...I had programmer look and he has advised it is nothing we change on our end from installation from get go.
Thanks
Jim

It is very weird, James, but I've successfully added a block called "test" in siteadmin area. And I didn't have any problems that you'd describe. Also, I don't see any record in apache's error log from your IP 69.29.34.144.
Please, try to access it from a different computer or ask someone to do it from other location and update us with the results.

Hi Alexander
I see your "test" block...however, it showed that the yes button which actually places in for view on site was on "no"
Did you click yes and then submit? I just clicked "yes" and submitted and get this
Failure Block ID 31
Also, if you note, when you click yes from the main page you see there...it just spins around and does not give confirmation...leaving it back at "no"
If you click edit the test, and click yes on that page and submit, then you get the error...
So, my overall question is did you click yes and then, see confirmation of update? If not, then actually the page just spun around...
We were advised by another computer, problem remains, so wanted to let you know and see if above was taken by you...
Thanks
Jim

I made it visible and you can see it in the right corner at
http://nolimitsite.com/nolimitxoops/. I got no errors or problems during this operations. Also, there were no errors while editing the block.

I see that but we still cannot access or build on it...this has to be with some server issue...and if not resolved then we will have to rebuild and as you can understand, we will not rebuild on a server here "hoping" situation is corrected...
Can you please escalate this matter?
Thank you

For example, even right now we cannot even take the test you put up on site...it does not update as suppose too...again, t his issue is strange and not one I feel can be quickly resolved with simple glances...I know you are trying and so are we, but really we need to see if this can be fixed...
At writing of this we cannot even remove your test...nor add anything...

James-
We do not support 3rd party software.
You are going to need to hire a qualified programmer or contact the script developers for assistance.
I think we have been more than fair with helping and debugging your scripts for you until this point, but it is outside of the scope of a web host to offer free programming services for you.
We are content publishers and we maintain the servers, and make sure services like email and web are functioning properly. In other words, we make sure your site is available on the Internet, and it is.
We do not have any control over each and every site that wants to run 3rd party software. Our servers are running correctly, your script is not. That is a front-end item that you will need to correct on your side.

My only other suggestion is we can try to pull a backup from last night or perhaps earlier than that to see if it resolves the issue. When was the last time that this script was updated? You said years? That's pretty consistent with a script working fine one day and not the next. Scripts eventually get hacked and something breaks if they are not religiously updated.

The last time I said it was working was last night...when I mentioned years...I was making the observation that we have used the XOOPS script since 2001...not the last time it worked here...
It was working fine yesterday. We encountered this upon trying to get started managing site this morning
Thank you

Do you want us to try to load a backup from last night? When was the last time the script was updated or what version are you running now?

Morning Matt,
I have no clue as to what took place all day yesterday...however, "oddly" it seems fine today. We made no changes from our end...so as I mention...have no clue.
At moment, everything is uploading (blocks, modules, etc) as it was prior to yesterday...this has to be one of the strangest events I have seen in long time doing websites.
Just wanted you to know the status of today...
I don't know if you all did something from your end or not...but again, at moment of this writing...it is ok

Hello, Jim.
The only sensible explanation that I can find is that something was wrong with your internet connection or computer. Anyway, glad to hear that everything works now. Hope, such problems will not happen in future.
Thank You

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the issue is once again upon us...
We had four people try to register yesterday...they were given notice
"Cannot register user"...
I went in to try to explore the reasons and we are right back to all the problems above...so reopening this ticket
Perhaps we need t o try what Matt mentioned and load a backup...
I am at a loss but do know we cannot run site with this going on as you can imagine...what will the backup accomplish for us?
Either way, please let me know....as we are right back to start of this ticket :(

Hello, James.
It sounds strange, but I have managed to register on your site without any problems. The username is test2. Please, check the issue one more time. If you like, we can restore your data from backup, but if I were you I'd check the issue from another location.
Thank You

This is absolutely the "strangest" situation...almost as if site is being "toyed" with...
Here is what we know:
Yesterday afternoon, we had a few try to register...they could not as system gave the message "Cannot register user".
Prior to contacting you, I attempted to register via another location and got the same message. At that point, I logged in with my admin name and pw...I was taken directly to same problem we had when this ticket was opened and got the spinning page...
Now, after the last 45 minutes to an hour, we are able to register and access site as administration from home location...
There has to be an answer why this system acts as it is doing...I am not a technician, so I have no answer...however, as you can see...this seems to be not an issue with my computer here...or my base...as I have tried other computer/locations and bear in mind, the people who attempted to register yesterday were in different states...so different locations...
The answer? I have no clue, but I do know it is not on our "location" or "site" from whence we work our site from...thus, again, it seems to be something on server side or perhaps
far extreme, but possible...a hacker is enjoying a game...
I look to Glowhost to determine what may be causing this disruptions with our site...I have no other folks to turn too :)
If it disrupts again, and instead of continuing to bother your technicians, we will simply move forward so all of us can not worry with it..
Thank you,
Jim

This is not a server problem, this is an issue with either the script itself, perhaps even your browser. You should consult with the developers support site to see if you can find the answer to this issue,

Hi,
Well as you can see it has been over 6 days, and sadly I am reporting the very same issue on this ticket...So, I am reopening to let you know that all the above on ticket is once again in place...
I will try to reinstall perhaps, but still totally confused as to why's and wherefore's...and seems perhaps we all are :)
